In case you haven’t seen this already I would like to remind you about the upcoming Time Counter reset on the Iridium Network. This so called “Re-Epoch” will take place on March 3, 2015 and impact Short-Burst data applications in the field.

Iridium distributed two announcement on a couple of days ago:

Announcement 1, relevant for  SBD :

The 2015 Iridium Re-Epoch will change on March 3rd, 2015. Iridium requests that all partners take the 2015 Re-Epoch Survey and review the ISU Epoch Technical Document(see attached).

Announcement 2 relevant for Iridium Phones:

On March 3rd, 2015 at 18:00:00 UTC, Iridium will reset the system time as part of standard satellite network operations.  This change will have no impact to satellite phone service availability or the ability to make phone calls, use SMS, or data services.  The displayed time and date will be impacted but can be easily adjusted following steps outlined in the product bulletin.  This change will not impact Iridium GO! devices and all devices shipped from Iridium after February 23rd are programmed to display the correct time and date after the March 3, 2015 system time change.
